Abnormality Dancin' Girl (アブノーマリティ･ダンシンガール Abunoomariti Danshin Gaaru[?]) is a song by Guchiry featuring flower. It is the second track of the album Gods' Miniature Garden, the sixth track of the album Uzoumuzou, the fourth track of the album Kiss me while the angels are away, the thirteenth track of the album Yume Monogatari, and the image song for Mene Tame.

Video Sequence[]

The music video starts with a butterfly display, going through the collection downwards. It stops midway to reveal book full of students: Mene being one of them. The other students faces aren’t shown except for hers. The first entry of Mene's Diary appears, quickly cutting to Mene sitting at her desk. The song name is shown as well as credits and we get a closer look at Mene, who appears to be tired. The screen cuts to Mene sitting at her desk in class while two faceless students talk in front of her. The camera zooms in on her as Mene sings the song. A teacher is then shown giving Mene her test results, which is a 65%. She looks at the paper before clenching it, disappointed in herself. Another student is shown getting their results, but a better grade, which annoys her.

As the chorus plays, Mene is shown in an empty room with chairs that circle her as the lyrics appear. She looks at the viewer with a wide, psyched smile as well. For a moment the color palette changes from dull to neon, but quickly switches back. Mene squints her eyes as the camera zooms onto her face.

After the chorus ends, Mene is shown huddled up at her desk again, this time alone. Her diary submissions then quickly flash on the screen. As the last submission is shown, a pot of orange flowers appear on her desk. Presumably the next day comes, and Mene in wearing a dress, looking nervous. It’s revealed she’s at a school party, probably prom, that’s butterfly themed. Mene however doesn’t go in, as Miya shows off her outfit and which makes Mene smile at her. Miya is shown accepting to dance with a faceless guy, then smiles wickedly at Mene in her school uniform again, who looks shocked.

The chorus plays, and Mene is back in her dress in the same room as before, this time it’s white and shoes circle her. She holds her hands together, staring desperately at the camera. Her color palette changed to neon again, then quickly flashes back. Mene smiles more vigorously, pleading to the viewer.

The chorus ends again, now showing the butterfly case from the beginning with Mene’s diary submissions returning. Instead of another butterfly, Miya is shown pinned down, appearing to be asleep. Mene then pulls out a pin, ready to stab Miya with a dark look on her face.

Next, two different versions of Mene are shown with the side of a mirror in the middle of them. The right “Mene” is smiling, while the left Mene is frowning. Left Mene asks “Who are you?”, while right Right “Mene” responds with “Who am I?”; the camera focusing on both of them respectively. Right “Mene” disappears, leaving the left Mene—the real Mene—alone, looking into the empty mirror. Mene stares in the mirror, her face getting more and more abnormal as she cries, telling herself to “Go crazy”. She eventually smiles, accepting herself for who she is. Mene stands in the dark, before instantly switching into her final dress.

The chorus returns, revealing Mene in a brand new outfit in a full black background. Instead of changing colors, the background turns purple then back again. Mene then dances on stage starting at the viewer, her legs slowly moving as she gets closer. She’s shown at a side view, raising her hands closer to her head. She continues to dance on the empty stage, but then Mene is back in her school uniform, looking devastated. She realizes everything that just happened was all in her head, leaving her on her knees. She then looks directly at the camera, tears all over her face as she grabs her hair; the song ends.

Background[]

Mene is an ordinary girl who has grown fed up with "normality" and falls in love with "abnormality" and starts dreaming of it. In the music video during the first chorus, Mene is laying her head on her desk. At the end of the chorus, a vase of flowers replaces Mene. In the real world, a vase of flowers on someone's desk means someone wants them to die. But, in some vocaloid songs, a vase of flowers on someone's desk means that they are honoring the person who presumably died. From this infomation, we can guess either she dies in the song or someone wants her to die.

  • The melody was created to have a "vocaloid-feel" to it.[1][2]
  • The butterflies at the start of the song are the common yellow swallowtail for Mene, the Menelaus blue morpho for Miya, the purple spotted swallowtail for Ikumi, the king swallowtail for Toa, Rajah Brooke's birdwing for Mio, and the common bluebottle for Yuu. All of these are either Least Concern or do not have a conservation status, with the exception of the Menelaus blue morpho, which was hunted to near extinction in the 20th century[3].
