I realised my last forum post this month was a bad shtpost so for soon-to-be February 29th it’s me talking about an EP cover by the guru and cannibal.
Image I stolen from the Bart of Wojo
There's a lot of stuff in this image that has to do with curses or magic like the moon, mirror and candle (astrology, gateways to spiritual realms/ broken mirrors are bad luck, candles are cool) and a lot of random stuff, I will be talking about the random stuff.
Around the centre-right, there's a hand sticking out from a hole of burnt paper holding a cross with a shovel. First off, I think it's cool they placed the nail on the wrists instead of the hands as it can support the weight of a crucified person more than the palms, also that the nail is on the wrong side of the wrists but honestly it looks cooler. Ignoring the random shovel, for why a cross is associated with an album about curses even though they're now a symbol of holiness may be because being crucified was associated with you being cursed by God.
"If someone guilty of a capital offense is put to death and their body is exposed on a pole, you must not leave the body hanging on the pole overnight. Be sure to bury it that same day, because anyone who is hung on a pole is under God’s curse. You must not desecrate the land the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance." - Deuteronomy 21:22-23
Pole is sometimes translated to tree or cross but people assume hanging someone on a pole could refer to crucifixion as people are left hanging there by the nails/ropes. Also, the cross can just be a symbol for religion or God or whatever. I don't know what Guchiry thinks he uses symbols and figures very liberally.
Another thing that interested me was the lady holding a candle at the bottom being held by a large ball-jointed doll's hand. What dolls have to do with curses is already well known so I'll just talk about the lady instead even though she has nothing to do with curses. The lady is cropped out of a painting called 'La Giambette' or 'The Ring Biscuit' which is what she is holding in her left hand and was originally holding instead of the candle. The painting was made by Jean-Honoré Fragonard who made the painting of the pink dress lady swinging with a shoe falling off called The Swing. Originally I thought it was that same lady from their pose so I was not surprised when I found out it was the same artist.
Unfortunately, when I found the original painting in it's 4k resolution, I realised something. Her tits are out, I'm sorry any 14 year olds out there. But since it's artistic I don't see much of a problem with it.
This post stopped being so Christian so I wonder if I can swear in this now.
I also wondered if I could try to find all of the original images in the album but I decided that would be too tiring so I'm leaving my post off that. I also thought of making this longer but I am procrastinating on so many things right now so you're all spared.
Edit: thanks for bring the knockers back manika!
